My rescue dog from Muttville!
I’ve wanted a dog for a long time now, and as a rescue advocate and a lover of senior pets, I decided to adopt an older dog to live with me and my cat Rufus. I wanted a small dog since I live in an apartment, and one that got along with other dogs, and cats, and other than that I just wanted a dog that when I looked at him or her, I just *knew* they were the one! I was browsing the websites for the various rescues, but kept checking out Muttville since I wanted an older dog.
Then one day a little girl popped up and I knew she was the one for me. Her name was Isa, and she was “a stray found in Los Angeles.” She had the sweetest face, puppy dog eyes, and her description said she loved everyone, so I went to Muttville to meet her. She was a bit shy, but I decided to give her a try, so I took her home with me! It’s now been a month and she is a happy dog, who gets along with my cat, and sleeps on my bed every night. I love her, she loves me, and we are a happy family. I named her Gertrude, but call her Gertie for short, and she’s a 10 year old Pekingese and Corgi mix. Here are some photos to show you how it all went down, and her progress. Thank you Muttville for bringing this sweet older lady into my life!
Here is Isa at the shelter in Los Angeles. As you can see she lost a lot of her fur and was in pretty bad shape. Her original name was Ethel, since she’s an old lady.
Here I am with Muttville founder Sherri Franklin about to take Isa home!
On the way home Isa crawled into my lap. It was love at first sight.
I walk her with a friend’s dog, so she has a mini-pack. That’s Stevie and Prudence on the right
.
When I work on the couch she lays next to me and politely asks me to rub her tummy.
Whenever she rides in the car she likes to lay upside down and act cute.
She’s missing her lower canines so when she smiles it’s extra cute!
What I wake up to each morning.
She was leaning up against me after a good run at the dog park.
I even took Gertie for a mini photo session at Crissy Field!
A very talented artist friend of mine made this beautiful portrait of her – check her out here!
